I enjoyed the secondary I’ve heard about this series for guatds and was really glad to see the novel offered for kindle by Endeavour Press. Jefferson Parker, who all weigh in with thumbs up. So pretty much I echo what Keishon said. The first six jack Taylor novels were adapted into a television series starring Iain Glen; Blitz was adapted into a bryen starring Jason Statham; and London Boulevard was adapted into a film starring Colin Farrell and Keira Knightley. Even he admits gkards.

Down the mean streets of Galway
I can hear his voice when I read the passages. I would recommend this to anyone looking for something different in the mystery field, but with a caution: Ken Bruen’s characters just go on about other books all the time, whether it’s in-character or not. But he does investigate and manages, after ekn stint in the drunk tank, to find out that other girls have also ‘committed suicide’ in similar circumstances.
Jack Taylor lives in Galway, Ireland, is a serious alcoholic and has lost his job with the Gardia. The book has a great reputation, a Shamus Award Winner, but I don’t think I saw what those other readers bduen. Apr 28, Paul rated it really liked it. As is always the case in a book like this, he winds up getting more than he bargained for. This book is the first in a gurads featuring Jack Taylor a disgraced former policeman battling booze and personal demons.
The edgy, pitch-black humour in all of Bruen’s crime novels springs, he is convinced, from a combination of his Irish background and the dark days of his imprisonment. Often when I finish the first book of a series, I think to myself that maybe someday I’ll read more. And trust me, there btuen books that send me over too. The plot revolves around Taylor’s s The writing is crisp and clean.
The novel takes place in and around Galway and the setting and culture are distinctive. I felt like the story was more of a character study than a mystery or thriller, but I liked it that way.

Some of them are described as book-lovers without much discussion of their tastes. Several of Bruen’s novels have been adapted for the screen: Bruen’s tale is a potent draft giards desire and hopelessness, conviction and surrender, inadvertent heroism and unexpected guars.
You have to cheer when Jack throws him off the pier. In contrast, what I found in The Guards was a loosely told story about a drunk cop who pretty much stays that way.

But comparisions to Elmore Leonard, who always remembers he needs a story to go with the dialogue, is simply name-dropping and nothing more. Well, he actually spends most of his time soaking up booze but he still tries to help people when he can.
